Bio
Creevey Crisis was formed in the summer of 2007 by Russ Benoit; after listening to more and more wizard rock in the ramp-up to the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" he found himself full of emotion and song ideas in the days immediately following the release of the book. A few songs came forth, such as "Tonight", "With You", and "Dear Tom". He decided to record them, but not actually call himself a "wrock band".
Within about a week or so... 3 more songs were written. On a long drive for a work meeting, Russ decided to give that whole crazy WIZARD ROCK thing a shot (since he was currently bandless, and the proud owner of a whole bunch of digital recording gear he barely knew how to use). The name Creevey Crisis popped into his head, then refused to get out. So he went with it.
In October 2007, the band's first album "Moving Photos and Memories" was released, originally as both a free download (before MySpace got all uppity and junk) and as an inexpensive full-quality CD. It featured Russ playing and singing everything (a drummer's dream come true, and everyone else's worst nightmare) along with some vocal help from his brother, friends, wife, and daughter. Surprisingly, people seemed to like it... he was interviewed on WZRD, picked up a library show with Roonil Wazlib and Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills, and met a whole bunch of amazingly fantastic people.
Life was good.
Suddenly, the guy who thought he'd never write more than 3 wizard rock songs found himself in the midst of writing another album in the spring of 2008. In June, "Not Standing Silent" was released on CD, as well as on iTunes. 12 more wizard rock songs, ranging from all out distorted crunch, to uptempo rock tracks, and an acoustic instrumental that featured his wife Sue on flute. Chris Helme from The Accursed also helped out, playing drums on 3 songs and adding backing vocals on a number of other tracks.
More shows followed the release, including a fundraiser at Russ' local library and a few house shows. Creevey Crisis was also asked to take part in a number of amazing compilation albums, including "Letters from Hogwarts" which raised money and awareness for To Write Love On Her Arms, as well as "Siriusly Smiling", a hilarious album put together to benefit the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction.
In December of 2008, Creevey Crisis put together a holiday gift for fans - a free 8 song all-acoustic EP. "Maybe In Four Years" featured contributions from Snidget,Tonks and the Aurors, and Gred And Forge - three bands Russ considered big influences, and also considered as close friends. To date, the EP has been downloaded over 500 times, a fantastic and humbling number.
Early 2009 was spent working on other projects, and writing the basis for what would be the third Creevey Crisis album. Titiled "VII", it is a concept album in the vein of such great bands as Rush, Dream Theater, Manowar, and Devin Townsend. Drum tracking began in August at Bandstand Live in Taunton MA, with Chris Helme taking the drum throne for all the tracks. Russ' close friend and former bandmate CJ agreed to help out, and is handling all bass duties on the album as well. It is already looking to be the most ambitious Creevey Crisis album to date.
November of 2009 saw the third installment of the fan-run wizard rock extravaganza WROCKSTOCK. Creevey Crisis cranked up the volume on the main stage on Saturday (with CJ on bass and Jarrod Perkins on drums), following an amazing performance by one of the Crisis' biggest influences Draco and the Malfoys. Russ also had the pleasure and honor of playing drums for Gred and Forge as well as Tonks and the Aurors, 2 sets Russ will always remember as some of the best he's ever been a part of.
"VII" was also officially released at Wrockstock to much acclaim, including a fantastic writeup and review from The Wizrocklopedia. Digital copies are now available for purchase, with hard copies soon to follow.
